This woman is the personification of the “Gaslight Gatekeep Girlboss” meme. Manic Pixie Dream Centrist ass.
Your first bisexual Senator, everyone! Hope the ~~representation~~ was worth it. Hope you’re feeling seen while working class bi people starve to death!
She also apparently brought a fucking cake like how much more cartoonishly evil can you get??
She saw Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette movie where’s she’s this mid-00’s indie twee princess and thought it was an instructional movie, apparently.
I wonder what went down or what company(ies) paid her (and the others) off to vote no.
Listen, just to be clear.
I campaigned for Sinema. And there is a reason.
Our only hope of unseating A FAR-RIGHT FASCIST in Arizona was to elect Sinema.
She will do things that will piss you off. But because of her, we have a Senate majority, and that means there are many, many things we need done that we can GET done.
I don’t like her either. But I also recognize the shape my state is in. Pushing it true-blue is going to be a process. We’re trying like hell, but give us a little slack, would you?
- Has a strong yet subtle message on the effects tourism has on native Hawaiians
- Villain redemption
- A character coded to be lgbtq without being a stereotype
- a social worker who actually cares about the well-being of the child
- Found Family before it was cool
- A platonic love story which is rare for Disney where two misfits find solace in one another
- autistic coded child treated with respect//allowed to feel heavy emotions and act like a normal child without it being offensive or irritating
I’d argue TWO characters who are autistic-coded.
Lilo is what happens when you support your autistic child. Stitch is what happens when you don’t. Notice how he calms the fuck down and becomes able to weigh actions and consequences once there’s someone in his corner? He stops trying to destroy everything and focuses his energies on protecting the people who are protecting him (and Lilo, not everyone is onboard with Stitch yet). Up to that point he struggles to connect, and so he lashes out, instead.
Also, if memory serves me, the “this is my family” speech is the only time in the movie he speaks in complete sentences. When the movie came out, that was a major goal in autism work (and while today we know that communication may not mean verbal, it’s still hugely important). Finally, with people who love and support him, he’s able to learn to communicate, build a support network, and develop effective coping mechanisms.
Thank y’all for this! I’m glad autistic people find so much validation in this movie, because this is one of my favorite Disney films right up there with Little Mermaid and Mulan!
Birds of Prey is now available streaming, time to make it into the cult classic it was born to be
I feel like I saw the same post several years ago with two completely different movies. It’s almost like media does this shit all the time
it needs to be noted that this film has an character from a marginalized minority who is not really represented in media (and when is it is done poorly) yet the actor is not
if that is the kind of thing that bothers normally then it should bother you here too.
Harley Quinn is Jewish and yet she is not played a Jewish actor. And before I get people yelling “should christian characters by christian actors” I would like to remind that the Jewish people are an entho-religion meaning we are ethnicity and religion. We are also a culture (a mostly closed one), a people that spans over several thousand years, and that we only make .2% of the world population.
The track record when it comes to our representation in media is pretty terrible and what little there is falls under mostly antisemitic. So what few canon Jewish characters there are should be portrayed by Jewish people.
And I refuse to let it be forgotten or ignored or covered up that didn’t happen here.
me watching restoration youtubers using a sand blaster: I wish I could use a take out my organs and bones, use a sand blaster on them make them nice and clean and them pop them back into place
I can’t stress enough that people need to be aware that there are doctors who are “just okay” at their jobs. Who barely passed their boards and/or had to retake courses and/or had scores so low they even had a hard time matching at the end of med school.
Please seek second opinions. Third, even. Ask the doctors endless questions. Challenge them if something doesn’t feel or sound right. Don’t stroke their egos by being intimidated by their perceived intelligence.
This is not meant to derail. Just an observation as a current resident. Lots of those people who struggled with scores are actually really quality doctors because things weren’t as easy. When you know that you don’t know everything and are willing to work hard to find the answer, that makes you a better physician.
The circumstances that lead to poor board scores and difficulty matching are not always based in knowledge. The painfully malignant system of medical education in the US is a far larger factor than any one individual.
Some doctors are just okay. And second opinions are really important. But to correlate that with testing is inaccurate at best and upholding a broken system at worst.
this kid is 14 oh my god is no one teaching children to protect themselves online anymore…
Meanwhile us olds are like: I don’t have a carrd and I’m not reading yours
Please don’t advertise your personal information, anyone could find that and use it however they want.
Oh my fucking god it isn’t 1998 anymore no one cares
??? Wtf does this mean??? 80% of employers google you before hiring you, child predators use that info to groom kids, abusers use that info against victims, police/government track activists online? Do you honestly think the internet has gotten safer since 1998????
also don’t tell any rando who wanders onto your blog with unknown intentions the specifics of how they can trigger you???? no????
the fact that its not 1998 anymore is exactly WHY you should be more fucking careful. do you have any idea the tools people have now compared to then? the fact that its gotten exponentially easier to find people in real life based off online info while young people have gotten extremely comfortable sharing all their personal details is deeply concerning.
im sorry no one ever taught you internet safety but that is NOT because its not important anymore. ITS MORE IMPORTANT THAN IT EVER WAS. please listen to the people whove been on the internet longer than youve been alive. our intentions are good and internet safety is vital. especially if youre queer, which i know for a fact a lot of you are.
If you don’t believe that people can track you online from a little bit of information, please check out this thread by Emily Gorcenski, an anti-fascist activist, where she breaks down how she was able to determine the exact location of someone’s storage unit based only on a photo in the New York Times. (Gorcenski also uses her super powers to out fascists, but in this case, she is using it on one of those people who were buying up hand sanitizer in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.)
The whole thread is fascinating, and is based on nothing more than a single photo, with most of the stuff she relies on to make the ID not even being in focus, let along in the foreground. Stuff you might never think about, like the angle between two building or the exact color of the storage unit doors.
Because you might think to yourself, “What is the harm of sharing a photo that shows the color of my storage unit doors??” But combined with your name and the fact that you live in, say, Eastern Tennessee, that might be all someone needs to narrow it down.
You should really read the whole thing, but to quote something she says at the end:
“The things that give you away are things that are not the focus of the shot. It’s details in the background, the foreground. Shadows, changes in coloration where they’re not expected. …
I have geolocated people from pictures of cranes in the background of images, and use local construction permits to figure out where they are. I have used the shape of downspout guards and styles of siding to identify neighborhoods.”
And as she reminds us: You should always assume that bad actors are capable of doing this, too.
So for the love of all that is holy, please protect yourselves. Be conscious of what you share and where and who can see it. This stuff matters.
Not to mention, like……… predators lie. Predators will do one of these carrds with information specifically designed to lure people into a false sense of security.
I could say that I’m a 15 year old trans indigenous girl named Jess who lives in the inner suburbs of Sydney, and NOT A SINGLE word of that is remotely true, but how do you know??? How do you know whether I’m telling the truth or not??
But you might read it and think “oh she’s a minor like me; she’s Safe to talk to” or “she’s trans too she understands me on a personal level” or “I know her; her name is Jess” or “she’s indigenous, I can take her stances on indigenous topics as Truth” – but I’m not any of those things. And if I wrote all that and stated that they were true and you believed me then you would be in an inherently vulnerable position, because you would be believing I’m your age or have the same gender experiences as you or that I’m of the same heritage, and meanwhile I could be a predator who’s specifically trying to target children by making myself out to be both a minor and two different types of minority.
And yeah, people can lie all the time if they want to; there’s nothing to stop me right now from announcing that I’m actually American, or I’m actually 52, or I’m actually a natural redhead, or I’m actually [insert something that I am not]. But if its becoming commonplace to lay all your “basic” information on the table from the outset then youre gonna start taking that at face value. Youre gonna believe peoples bios. You’re gonna check someone’s carrd out and go “oh they’re a fourteen year old boy from wisconsin” and every interaction you have with them from then on is going to be through a lens of “theyre a fourteen year old boy from Wisconsin,” and they might not be.
For the love of GOD please stop sharing your personal details online. You dont need to tell people your actual name. You dont need to share selfies. Godding fuck dont announce to the whole world that you live in a certain specific area and that you’ve just been kicked out of home. There are people who will take that information and use it against you.
And if you are ever, EVER going to meet up with an online friend in real life, here are some basic tips that you really absolutely 100% should do:
Do a zoom chat with them first. No, not selfies; selfies can be taken from anywhere. I could google “teenage girl,” screenshot it, and send it to you with the claim that its my face. I could steal someone’s Facebook photos and claim they’re mine. Its a lot harder for an adult to con you into thinking theyre a teenager if you insist on doing a zoom call or similar with them first.
If you have a facetime/zoom call/Skype/whatever scheduled, and they cancel it, but still want to meet up in person at the pre-arranged time, DO NOT GO. Straight up say “no, we’ll reschedule; how about we Skype at the time we were meant to meet in person instead.” DO NOT MEET UP WITH SOMEONE IF YOU HAVENT VIDEO-CHATTED WITH THEM. DO NOT. If they dont want to Skype with you or keep agreeing to and then dropping out, then thats a fucking huge warning sign.
If they video chat with you and you’re satisfied that they are who they say they are and youre happy to go ahead with the meet, then agree to meet up in the middle of the day in a crowded place. A shopping mall, a busy cafe, etc. Somewhere with lots of people around. Do NOT go somewhere else with them. Do NOT get in their car or go somewhere with fewer people or etc. Hate to break it to you, but it is NOT outside of the realm of possibility that the person you’re meeting is bait to get you somewhere isolated where someone else can grab you. This is a thing that has happened. Easiest way to avoid it? Don’t go places alone with your online friend until you know for sure they’re not dodgy.
Also: TELL SOMEONE WHERE YOU ARE GOING AND WHO YOU ARE GOING TO MEET. It doesn’t have to be a parent. Lord knows some of you kids don’t trust your parents, and I understand that. But tell SOMEONE. A friend, a sibling, a cousin; whatever. Tell them when you’re going, where you’re going, who you’re meeting, and what the other person’s online details are. If it turns out that theyre a normal human person who is just keen to meet their online friend, then great. But if they turn out to be some kind of creepy whackjob who kidnaps you or something, then at least there is someone out there who can give the police a start point about where you were and who you were meeting.
Online safety is so important and it really freaks me out to see how cavalier some of you kids are with your own safety. There are loads of freaks out there; don’t hand your information over to them in a handy little personal bio.
In many cultures, ethnic groups, and nations around the world, hair is considered a source of power and prestige. African people brought these traditions and beliefs to the Americas and passed them down through the generations.
In my mother’s family (Black Americans from rural South Carolina) the women don’t cut their hair off unless absolutely necessary (i.e damage or routine trimming). Long hair is considered a symbol of beauty and power; my mother often told me that our hair holds our strength and power. Though my mother’s family has been American born for several generations, it is fascinating to see the beliefs and traditions of our African ancestors passed down. We are emotionally and spiritually attached to our hair, cutting it only with the knowledge that we are starting completely clean and removing stagnant energy.
Couple this with the forced removal and covering of our hair from the times of slavery and onward, and you can see why so many Black women and men alike take such pride and care in their natural hair and love to adorn our heads with wigs, weaves, braids, twists, accessories, and sharp designs.
Hair is not just hair in African diaspora cultures, and this is why the appropriation and stigma surrounding our hair is so harmful.
i just discovered this wilkinson sword ad, and it is basically #myaesthetic 😘

reminder that if you still like attack on titan and are unaware of all the awful messages it promotes (fascism, imperialism and even nazism, among others). please educate yourself and strongly reconsider your attachment to the series.
if you are aware of all of this, yet continue to enjoy the series, save me the trouble and block me right now.
in light of the recent tag on twitter thanking the author of this trainwreck, reminder that if you even THINK about remotely defending or excusing snk on this post i’m blocking you
There are people in the notes rolling their eyes, so here’s a source in Korean about the AOT author posting on twitter about the violent military occupation of Korea (y’know, the one with child sex slavery that never got acknowledged by the Japanese government). He says that Korean people’s population doubled because of this occupation, justifying it. It’s not a new idea, many Japanese nationalists believe that Korean people are / were savages that needed to be civilized through Japanese culture.
I watched some of Attack on Titan when it was JUST starting out, bc hey, new anime. But very quickly realized the author supports fascist ideas and stopped watching. It’s really not hard.
Dot Pixis is based off of a Japanese war criminal, Yoshifuru Akiyama, that the author praised on twitter. Mikasa is named after a warship in a war that led to the occupation of Korea. Erwin Smith is named after a nazi, Erwin Rommel. Here’s an archived post with linked sources.
It’s fine to want more sources for something, but Jewish and Korean people on tumblr have been talking about how bad the series is for nearly 4 years now…maybe you should start listening to them. 0_0 There are several very long discussion posts on here already, where people provide tons of evidence from the manga and anime and talk about how it reflects an admiration for nazis and the imperial Japanese military.
I had one point had headcannons about Jewish people in relation to this series, but I stopped as well as watching when a friend of mine who was reading the manga so was way ahead of me let me that the series went with a very coded Jewish characters created the Titans which is very antisemitic.
I as you can imagine no longer watch the series or have any headcanon for this show.
I think it is worth noting that whole gross antisemitic mess of making the whole Jewish coded characters are behind the end of world and the monsters that eat people which I’m okay with saying also leans into blood libel.
Can’t get over the prominence of the story of Abraham sacrificing Isaac in my childhood. Can’t get over the prominence of the moral of God above family and friends in my childhood. That always tore me apart.
I remember asking a staff member at my camp “how do you have faith like Abraham, I want to believe I could trust God that much, but I don’t think I could”. I felt so guilty for not fully trusting God.
Yeah, it was pretty wild to go from, “you only need faith as small as a mustard seed,” to “you need to have so much faith that you would kill a family member for god’s shit and giggles.”
Look y’all I know that’s how that story is taught but literally that is not the moral of the story, Abraham failed that damn test, and I will stand behind this interpretation until I die.
That’s not how the story was taught at all at my shul.
Not only does G-d never speak to Abraham again, Torah tells us he came down from the mountain ALONE.
The price of him not questioning was the loss of his son in a totally different way. The bond was broken. He completely and utterly failed on all counts.
Damn I wish I could show this interpretation to my mom. I know she wouldn’t get it, but like, maybe if she could, she’d understand how deeply she hurt me when this conversation played out about her not being willing to accept my transition.
“What would I tell my pastor, huh? That I’m fine with letting you turn away from God’s will?”
“Who is more important to you, your child or your pastor? Because I don’t understand why you’d lose either of us, but if it did come down to that, who are you here for, me or him? Are your children not the most important people in your life?”
And she responded in a way that left probably a permanent scar even if she does ever come around. “Im here for God. He made you a woman and I respect His path for your life over the ungrateful one you’re trying to set for yourself.
And I think in her heart she believes it is the moral choice to place honoring what she thinks is God’s wishes over her childrens’ wellbeing.
But this interpretation says No. Don’t persecute your children in the name of God!
I’m not even religious, but damn if this interpretation didn’t put some salve on that scar of mine.
@dino-nugget7 also worth noting is that Isaac made the same mistake with his children, pitting Jacob and Esau against each other, and for his pains he was stricken blind at the end of his life and couldn’t see either of them. Torah has A LOT to say on this subject. So does the Christian Bible: Colossians says “fathers, vex not your children, lest they become disenheartened.”
Your mother, full stop, was wrong, and so is any “church” that taught her this was the way to go.
You know what? I’m not done.
Torah shows us an act of gender transformation. When Eve is created, she comes from a man. There’s nothing shameful or unnatural indicated in how she comes to be. And in Tanakh, in the psalms, we have “you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, how well I know it.” If G-d made and knew you before you were born, then he knows what’s up and what your soul is like. “Man looks at the outward appearance, but G-d looks at the heart.”
Tanakh makes it clear. If your heart says you’re a man, and G-d knew and created you to have that heart, then so you are, and that was intentional.
According to Raban when Adom was created it was a being that back to back Adom and Chava and that when Adom was given the task of naming animals seeing that mates were separate from one another and could embrace each other Adom wished for that too and asked Hashem for that.
It says in the Torah before the creation of Chava that Adom went to sleep and the Hashem put Adom into a deeper sleep.
This is when according Raban Adom was separated into 2 distinctive people and the word that is translated into rib is wrong, but actually means side. And with this we have the creation of Chava.
So if you think about it by according to Raban’s argument we never really started off with one gender or another and with the creation of Chava, Hashem did the first gender assignment surgery and it is was a both the first man and first woman.
I’m glad this amendment failed, but damn Manchin!! You’re being an Ass, dude.
Murkowski out there demonstrating that “red state” means something different in Alaska.
Murkoswki also owes absolutely no loyalty to the Republicans. They primaried her out and she won as an independent. Glad she’s making use of that freedom.
look, i dont care what directors say in behind-the-scenes or interviews, if they dont present that information in the film, they are bad story tellers. like, we had to assume everyone attended your comiccon panel? like? no. you are bad at story telling. if a character appears with zero context, it is confusing. i am not saying spoon feed the audience, but goddamn, there are plot devices that should be there to explain why that character showed up. not just information from your twitter. i shouldnt have to absorb five layers of media for your film to make sense
PREACH
“Some of you might be inclined to say ‘Oh, that’s explained in the book’ or ‘That’s explained in the deleted scenes’ to which I say:
Too bad.
I will do research to review a film, I will not do homework just to sit down and watch the damn thing and try to figure out what’s going on. If you need me to know something so I don’t think your character is an asshole and you don’t indicate it to me, well, it’s your fault I think your character’s an asshole.”
The only stuff that should be interview or panel-exclusive should be fun facts, like “if you look in the very back of the Millennium Falcon you’ll see a plushie of Mog from Spaceballs. We threw it in there as a nod to Mel Brooks.”
